Rome Statute Complies with RA Constitution: Constitutional Court
The Constitutional Court today published a decision regarding the compliance of the obligations set forth in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, signed on July 17, 1998, with the Constitution.
The high court determined that the Rome Statute is in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. The issue was discussed through a written procedure. The decision is final and takes effect upon publication.
Judges Tunyan, Khundkaryan, and Tovmasyan have special opinions regarding the decision.
It is worth mentioning that at the end of 2022, the Government referred this issue to the Constitutional Court. According to the Government, this opens the opportunity to hold Azerbaijan accountable for cases of war crimes.
