We Address Each Other as 'You': Scholz Discusses Calls with Putin

The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has stated that despite significant differences in opinions regarding military operations in Ukraine, conversations with Putin have always been conducted in a courteous manner. The German Chancellor does not believe in the imminent end of the armed conflict. This information was relayed by rbc.ru.

In an interview with Rheinische Post, Scholz mentioned that he has spoken periodically with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with some discussions lasting up to an hour or an hour and a half. According to Scholz, sometimes they communicate in German, and at other times through translation. The Chancellor noted that both parties maintain a civil tone, addressing each other as 'Du,' while emphasizing that there are 'serious differences in opinions' regarding military operations in Ukraine.

Scholz is convinced that peace cannot be achieved on Russia's terms, and Ukraine must have the opportunity to defend its territorial integrity and independence. In the Chancellor's opinion, an end to the conflict is impossible without the withdrawal of Russian troops. He has urged preparations for the reality that military operations will be prolonged, and that the consequences will be felt for a long time afterward, stating, 'not everything will return to normal at once.' However, according to Scholz, Western countries should continue efforts to halt military actions.
