Tigran Avinyan Discusses Anti-Corruption Committee Actions in City Hall

Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Avinyan has addressed the recent actions of the Anti-Corruption Committee within the City Hall of Yerevan.

"The latest actions of the Anti-Corruption Committee once again remind us how honorable it is to hold a position at the expense of the state, community, and taxpayers, but it also entails a double portion of accountability. While I do not wish to violate the presumption of innocence, I expect a complete and comprehensive disclosure from the investigation, as this is what the interests of Yerevan and its citizens demand. At the same time, I call for sobriety from all employees of the City Hall and community organizations, urging them to dedicate their efforts solely to the capital city's service," he stated.

It is noteworthy that on March 10, the National Security Service conducted a search in the office of Deputy Mayor Gevorg Simonian. He was later arrested and subsequently detained. According to the proceedings under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Committee, Gevorg Simonian, during his tenure as Deputy Minister of Health from 2020 to 2022, failed to perform his official duties, leading to significant harm to the legal interests of the state.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing. Today, on March 21, former head of the Yerevan City Hall staff Seyran Mejlumyan and the acting head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Development David Dalakyan were also arrested.
