Newborn's Body Partially Covered with Plastic Bags Found Alongside Toys and Food Remnants

The Investigative Committee of Armenia reports that on March 20, 2023, at 15:30, a citizen contacted the Goris division of the police and informed them about a newborn's body located in the woods adjacent to the "Nor Zanger" area along the Goris-Stepanakert highway.

As a result of this report, a criminal case was initiated on March 20, 2023, by the Goris investigative division of the Syunik regional investigative administration under paragraphs 3 and 5 of part 2 of Article 155 of the RA Criminal Code. An investigation is currently underway.

During the examination of the scene, the body of a female newborn was discovered under a pine tree, 25.3 meters away from the edge of the road in the right-side gorge of the Goris-Stepanakert highway. The body was partially covered with plastic bags. Nearby, a sheet, a plastic bag, various items, toys, and food remnants were found.

The citizen who reported to the police indicated that around 15:00 on March 20, while gathering starblossom in the mentioned area, they heard a dog barking, approached, and discovered the newborn's body, immediately contacting the police.

The police have been instructed to conduct operational investigative measures to discover the mother and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. Additionally, inquiries have been sent to hospitals in Kapan, Goris, and Sisian to further ascertain the identity of the mother.

A forensic examination of the body has been ordered. The investigation is ongoing.
