Kazakhstan Sends Oil via Azerbaijan for the First Time, Bypassing Russia
Kazakhstan has conducted its first trial oil shipment across the Caspian Sea, bypassing Russia through Azerbaijani territory. This was reported by Forbes, citing the "Azerbaijani Caspian Shipping Company" (ASCO).
The trial transportation demonstrated the possibility of diversifying oil export routes through rail transport towards the Trans-Caspian route.
Currently, the primary route for Kazakhstan's oil export passes through Russian territory, using the pipeline system of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium to Novorossiysk, from where the fuel is shipped by sea to its destinations.
In July 2022, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered the establishment of new oil supply routes that circumvent Russia, including by sea.
