Azerbaijani Forces Committed Illegal Killings: U.S. State Department Report
The U.S. Department of State has released a report addressing the human rights situation in Armenia, which also details the atrocities committed by Azerbaijani soldiers during the September aggression against Armenia.
The report mentions reports that during the September conflict, Azerbaijani forces committed illegal killings and subjected Armenian soldiers to cruel and inhumane treatment.
It is noted that the International Committee of the Red Cross has investigated cases of individuals missing as a result of the conflict with Azerbaijan. Following the autumn war of 2020, 203 individuals (including 20 civilians) are considered missing, while 3 soldiers are reported missing as a result of the conflict on September 13-14.
The U.S. State Department also addresses the illegal executions of 7 Armenian soldiers by Azerbaijani servicemen, which were reportedly filmed in mid-September 2022, according to Human Rights Watch and Bellingcat investigative journalists.
The report further mentions cases of inhumane treatment of the bodies of Armenian female soldiers during the September conflict, attacks on civilian infrastructure by Azerbaijani forces, and the targeting of ambulances.
Additionally, the report presents violations of human rights in Armenia, including the use of force by security forces, poor conditions in prisons, arbitrary arrests, and restrictions on freedom of speech.
