VIDEO: Sergey Sargsyan Defeats Azerbaijani Wrestler to Claim Bronze Medal

Freestyle wrestler Sergey Sargsyan, competing in the 92 kg weight category, has secured a bronze medal at the U23 European Championship taking place in Bucharest, achieving a remarkable victory over Azerbaijan's Abdulali Shabanov with a score of 8-5 in a decisive match.

Sargsyan clinched the winning points in the final seconds of a tense bout, while the Azerbaijani wrestler was unable to hold back tears after his defeat.

Initially, Sargsyan began his campaign in the qualification round, where he lost to Georgian wrestler Andro Margishvili. However, Margishvili made it to the finals, granting the Armenian wrestler the opportunity to compete in the consolation match, where he won decisively 7-0 against Sweden’s Farhad Anosheh.

Thus, the Armenian freestyle wrestling team concluded their performances at the U23 European Championship with a total of 3 silver and 3 bronze medals. Previously, silver medals were earned by Mezhlum Mezhlumyan in the 61 kg category, Hayk Papikyan in 70 kg, and Knyaz Iboyan in 86 kg, while Edik Harutyunyan (57 kg) and Martin Simonyan (125 kg) captured bronze.
