Over 200 Syrian Armenians Wish to Return Home After Earthquakes
After the powerful earthquakes, over 200 Armenians in Syria who are in a dire situation are looking to return to their homeland. This information was shared with Sputnik Armenia by the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Zareh Sinanyan.
According to Sinanyan, it is important not to underestimate the fact that many Armenians living in Syria wish to return to Armenia. “We already have the lists of our compatriots who want to leave Syria and come to Armenia,” said Sinanyan.
He noted that efforts are underway to bring and resettle Syrian Armenians in Armenia. Sinanyan emphasized that after the earthquakes, Syrian Armenians are in severe social-economic and psychological distress.
“Despite the fact that after the earthquakes, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia delivered humanitarian aid to Syrian Armenians, and through the Armenia Fund, $140,000 has been transferred to community organizations, this is not a fundamental solution,” he stated.
It is worth mentioning that the death toll from the same earthquakes in Syria has exceeded 8,500.
