VIDEO: Tropical Cyclone Freddy Claims Over 100 Lives in Southern Africa
The tropical cyclone Freddy has claimed the lives of 104 people in Malawi and Mozambique. The Department of Disaster Management in Malawi reported that heavy rains have led to floods and landslides, resulting in 99 fatalities in the country, with 16 people still considered missing. The highest number of deaths occurred in the Blantyre district, where 85 people lost their lives.
More than 22,000 individuals have been forced to leave their homes. Currently, rescue operations are ongoing, and 39 camps have been organized for those affected.
In Mozambique, which was also battered by the storm, five people have died, according to the Associated Press citing local authorities.
