16 People Arrested in Azerbaijan on Suspicion of Espionage in Favor of Iran

16 people have been arrested in Azerbaijan on suspicion of espionage in favor of Iran. This information has been reported by РИА Новости, citing Trend.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs has stated that operations to uncover Iranian espionage networks are ongoing in the country.

At the end of January this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs had informed the SalamNews news agency and Baku's Interaz television channel that a special operation against an Iranian agent network had been initiated. Seven people were arrested as suspects at that time.

Several days later, the police announced the arrest of an additional 39 individuals, who were charged with engaging in diversionary activities on behalf of Iran.
