Will Araik Harutyunyan Resign? - Hraparak

Recently, a meeting took place between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Artsakh President Araik Harutyunyan. Harutyunyan shared with close associates the gravity of the discussions he had with Pashinyan, where the latter reiterated Baku's official stance that, in his opinion, Artsakh should integrate into Azerbaijan, urging that the people of Artsakh must find a way to live alongside Azerbaijanis, as there is no alternative, or there is one—war and the annihilation of 120,000 Artsakh residents. He also reassured that the international community promised to provide a certain status, autonomy, within Azerbaijan.

Harutyunyan returned to Artsakh in a somber mood and impression, telling his close circle that he no longer wishes to remain in the presidential position. It is noteworthy that yesterday, the Artsakh Parliament's legal and state affairs committee discussed a draft constitutional amendment and gave a positive conclusion. These amendments pertain to the possibility of electing a president by the National Assembly in case the presidential post remains vacant during a state of emergency. The National Assembly will elect a president in Artsakh before the current president's term expires. It is also important to note that a state of emergency has been in place in Artsakh since 1992. Political circles believe that Harutyunyan wants to transfer the presidential chair to someone else as soon as possible.
