US Warns Georgian President Against Assisting Russia in Circumventing Sanctions
The US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has warned Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili that her country should not assist Russia in circumventing sanctions. Sullivan emphasized the need for Georgia not to become a platform for evading sanctions, according to a press release published on March 10.
During the conversation, they also discussed the protests occurring in Georgia, its aspiration to become a member of the European Union, and the reforms necessary for joining the alliance. The US National Security Advisor made it clear to Zurabishvili that Washington will continue to support democracy in Georgia.
He also noted that the US is pleased with the withdrawal of the foreign agents bill. On March 10, the US administration and EU representatives expanded measures to deter violations of anti-Russian sanctions. The new joint measures are aimed at additional organizations in third countries. Both parties have agreed to continue collaborative efforts to strengthen economic restrictions.
