Two Earthquakes Recorded in Italy
Two earthquakes measuring 4.6 and 3.9 on the Richter scale occurred Thursday evening in Central Italy, near Perugia, following tremors that took place a few hours earlier, according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).
The first earthquake had a magnitude of 4.4. The tremors were felt in neighboring regions of Marche and Tuscany. There have been no reported casualties or significant damage due to the underground shocks.
The fire department has reported that citizens have reported minor damages such as cracked plaster and fallen roof tiles. As a precaution, the mayors of Perugia and Assisi have ordered the closure of schools on Friday and Saturday, as reported by la Repubblica newspaper. During this time, checks will be conducted for building damage.
Similar measures have been implemented for universities in the Umbria region. Authorities in the city of Umbertide have set up tents where citizens who are afraid to return home can sleep overnight.
