Lavrov Calls Borrell's Statements on Georgia Hypocrisy

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has labeled statements made by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, regarding the situation in Georgia as hypocrisy. He made this declaration while speaking on the Russian First Channel.

Lavrov also pointed out the West's "principally different" attitude towards protests by the opposition in Georgia and Moldova. He stated, "In Georgia, the opposition does not act upon what it can do; it is obliged to do what it wants. However, in Moldova, protests against the ruling authorities are condemned because the opposition in Georgia reflects Western interests, while in Moldova, they reflect different interests."

He further added, "What happened in Georgia is similar to the Maidan in Kyiv; there is no doubt that the law concerning the registration of non-governmental organizations that receive foreign funding only up to 20% of their budget was merely a pretext to initiate an attempt to change power through force altogether."
