Electricity Supply Restored to Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant

Renat Karchaan, an advisor to the general director of Rosenergoatom, has announced that electricity supply to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant has been restored. The fifth and sixth power units will be able to fully return to their pre-power outage state in the near future, TASS reports.

It is noteworthy that Ukraine completely halted electricity supply to the Zaporizhia nuclear plant on the night of March 9. At the time of the outage, the first and third power units were undergoing repairs, while the second and fourth were in cold shutdown mode, and the fifth and sixth were operating in hot shutdown mode, meaning they were not generating electricity but providing heating for internal needs and the Enerhodar homes.

Karchaan emphasized, “The transition to cold shutdown mode could have been prevented. In the current situation, it was very difficult to do, but the Zaporizhia nuclear plant employs highly skilled specialists.” He also noted that the short circuit that led to the plant's shutdown occurred in territory controlled by Kyiv, a significant distance from the plant. He did not rule out the possibility that the line was intentionally shut down.
