Current Situation in Georgia
After a tumultuous night near the parliament building in Tbilisi, the situation is now calm. This has been reported by Georgian media.
It has been noted that there are currently no protesters on Rustaveli Avenue, only police presence. However, a new protest has already been scheduled for 3:00 PM.
Earlier, we reported that mass protests erupted in the center of Tbilisi against the foreign agent law passed by the Parliament. The situation escalated yesterday after the bill was adopted in its first reading. Both the West and the opposition argue that it hampers Georgia's European integration.
It is worth mentioning that opposition leaders called on their supporters to gather, during which several clashes occurred with the police.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili expressed support for the protesters and promised to veto the law.
