Total Electricity Consumption Debt in Ukraine Reaches $67.5 Million
The total debt for electricity consumption in Ukraine has reached $67.5 million, with payment discipline worsening in recent months, said Sergey Kovalenko, Executive Director of Yasno Detek in Ukraine’s energy sector.
“In recent months, the payment discipline has deteriorated. It seems that everyone was so enamored with uninterrupted electricity supply that they decided not to pay. However, you still need to pay for the electricity consumed. Currently, we have about 2.5 billion hryvnias (approximately $67.5 million) in debts from the population. This is a significant amount of money,” Kovalenko wrote on his Facebook page.
He also warned that in the case of accumulating large debts, consumers will be the first to have their electricity disconnected. Additionally, social protection agencies may refuse to grant subsidies if utility services remain unpaid. Kovalenko had previously warned Ukrainians that they need to make electricity payments with larger bills.
