Mkhitaryan Opens Up: 'If I Had Played Back Then, I'm Sure My Father Would Have Helped Me with His Advice'
I have always asked myself whether, if my father were alive, we would have returned from France to Armenia and whether I would have played football at all. This is actually the first question I ask myself because after his illness, we returned to Armenia, and after my father's death, I began to engage in football.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the former captain of the Armenian national team and midfielder for the Italian club Inter, said in an interview with Profootball.
'If I had played back then, I am sure my father would have helped me with his advice. My first critic and someone who would offer good words would be my father; that is what I believe,' Mkhitaryan said.
When asked what his 3-year-old son would be doing in the future and whether he would follow in his grandfather's and father's footsteps, Mkhitaryan noted: 'First of all, I want my son to become a good person, a well-educated person. Only then can we think about what he might be engaged in. Of course, I would love for my son to choose the path of football, but everything will depend on him. Although when I watch him, I realize that he really has a great love for football. But we should not forget that every age has its peculiarities, and of course, we cannot say with certainty whether he will continue to be interested in football or not. I will do everything in my power to ensure that my son follows my and my father's path.'
