VIDEO: Insults, MPs on the Floor in the Georgian Parliament

New footage has emerged from the brawl in the Georgian Parliament. The fight escalated to the point where some lawmakers ended up on the floor. According to Georgian media reports, numerous insults were exchanged.

This incident occurred while the MPs were discussing the draft law on foreign agents in Georgia.

The "Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence" pertains only to legal entities, while the "Registration of Foreign Agents" bill has been modeled after a U.S. law. Both bills were initiated by lawmakers representing the "People’s Power" civic movement. It is already known that President Salome Zourabichvili intends to exercise her veto power.

The clash initially began near the doors of the meeting hall when lawmakers decided to hold a closed session and prevent representatives of non-governmental organizations from participating. Opposition lawmakers attempted to open the doors, and at that moment, a brawl broke out between representatives of the "Georgian Dream" and "Democratic Georgia" parties.

The second altercation among MPs occurred in the meeting hall. Representatives of the opposition parties started fighting with MPs from the "Georgian Dream" and the "People's Power" NGO. The parliamentarians turned over tables, and for about 40 minutes, they were "settling scores." Currently, the committee has resumed its work, but the situation remains tense. Representatives of NGOs and the opposition, who are not members of the committees, continue to protest outside the meeting hall, while shouts from lawmakers can still be heard from the other side of the door.
