Macron Announces End of Colonial 'French Africa' Era
French President Emmanuel Macron has declared that the era of 'French Africa', when Paris held significant influence over its former colonies, has come to an end. This period has now been replaced by an era of 'balanced partnership', the French leader announced during a visit to Gabon.
Addressing the French community in Gabon, Macron stated that Paris and the Republic share a common history, and that the so-called 'informal guardianship', known as Franceafrique, is now exhausted.
The French leader also noted that he does not intend to interfere in Gabon's internal politics, emphasizing that his visit is solely a gesture of friendship and respect. According to Macron, the main goal of his visit to Gabon is to establish a balanced partnership in areas such as climate and diversity, economy, and the protection of mutual interests.
