VIDEO: Kuril Islands' Ebeko Volcano Erupts Ash, Probability of Eruption High

The Kuril Islands' Ebeko volcano has registered ash emissions up to 3 kilometers high, reported the Kamchatka group of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to experts, the probability of an eruption is high.

The volcano's plume has spread eastward, reaching up to 5 kilometers away. Specialists believe that the volcano is exhibiting significant activity, with a high likelihood of an eruption.

Standing at 1,156 meters, Ebeko volcano is located on Paramushir Island, seven kilometers northwest of Severo-Kurilsk, in the northern part of the Verkhnyadskaya mountain range. Regular emissions (from mild to moderate) have been ongoing since October 20, 2016, which is considered normal activity for the volcano. The record emission occurred on August 31, 2018, when a plume of smoke erupted to a height of 6 kilometers from a new crater formed in 2017.
