Russia Suspends Participation in Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law suspending Russia's participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty.
"The Russian Federation is suspending the operation of the treaty on further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms between the Russian Federation and the United States of America," states the text of the explanatory note.
It is reminded that Vladimir Putin announced the cessation of Russia's participation in the treaty during a speech addressed to the Federal Assembly. Subsequently, both the State Duma and the Federation Council unanimously supported the leader's decision.
The Foreign Ministry has indicated that they are open to returning to dialogue, but only if Washington takes steps to reduce tensions.
