«I will not sign those». Serbian President on Recognition of the Self-Proclaimed Republic of Kosovo

Belgrade will never agree to the recognition of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo and its participation in international organizations, including the UN, stated Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. This was reported by Interfax.

“We do not want to negotiate mutual recognition, the inclusion of Kosovo and Metohija in the UN. We are ready to talk about the implementation of already agreed-upon agreements,” Vučić said during a broadcast on the Serbian PTC television channel, commenting on the outcomes of negotiations concerning the resolution of the Kosovo issue, which were held in Brussels on Monday with EU mediation.

The Serbian President reminded that since 2013, four documents have been agreed upon regarding the establishment of the Serbian Community in Kosovo, but the regional authorities represented by the Albanian ethnic majority continue to oppose this initiative. Vučić assured that consultations regarding the resolution of the Kosovo issue will continue in the future; however, he emphasized that Belgrade does not intend to make concessions.

“We are ready to discuss the implementation plan of the agreements reached, but not the changes included in the EU proposals; I will not sign those,” emphasized the Serbian President.

During the meeting held in Brussels, attended by Vučić and the Prime Minister of the Kosovo government, Albin Kurti, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, presented the EU proposals for normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina. These proposals specifically aim to develop “normal, friendly relations based on equality with each other.”

The document states that both parties will be guided by the UN Charter, including “respect for the sovereign equality of all states, their independence, autonomy, and territorial integrity, the principle of the right to self-determination, and the protection of human rights.” According to the document, “the two sides mutually recognize the relevant documents and national symbols, including passports, diplomas, license plates, and customs seals.”
