Turkish Red Crescent Scandal Continues with New Revelations
It has been revealed that the Turkish Red Crescent not only sold the tents provided to earthquake-affected residents but also utilized goods sent to relevant areas. This was reported by a journalist from the Turkish newspaper ‘Cumhuriyet’ with data published in 2021 regarding previous years. Accordingly, in 2019, 1 million used items were sold, while 759,000 were sold in 2020.
“Here is the Turkish Red Crescent led by a director receiving a salary of 98,000 lira (approximately 5,200 USD) and assistants with 76,000 lira (around 4,000 USD) salaries. Such a pity. This means that if the ‘Ahbap’ association didn’t provide money, the Red Crescent would have had to delay the shipment of tents. When they said they would be held accountable, I wasn’t joking,” wrote the journalist.
