Impact of Turkey's Devastating Earthquake in Numbers

The material damage from the devastating earthquakes in Turkey amounts to $34.2 billion (645 billion 884 million 100 thousand Turkish lira), reports Ermenihaber.am.

Humberto López, the World Bank's Director for Turkey, stated while presenting the "Global Assessment of Disaster Damage" report that this figure corresponds to 4% of Turkey's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The report indicates that ongoing aftershocks may increase the extent of damage over time. Highlighting that several of Turkey's poorest provinces are also in the earthquake zone, the report mentions that nearly 50% of the region's residents are Syrian refugees, totaling more than 1.7 million individuals.

Additionally, the report estimates that 1.25 million people have been rendered temporarily homeless due to complete or partial building collapses. According to Turkish official data, the extent of the earthquake damage, which has claimed the lives of 44,374 people, is still being assessed.
