Azerbaijan Ready for Trilateral Meeting, Armenia Yet to Confirm Final Agreement: Lavrov
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated today in Baku that Azerbaijan is ready for a trilateral meeting, while Armenia has yet to provide a final agreement.
“We have repeatedly provided a platform for meetings between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia. In December of last year, an agreement was reached to hold the next meeting of our partners on Russian territory. Jeyhun Bayramov recalled how events unfolded. Our Armenian partners declared that they could not participate in this event,” Lavrov said, without mentioning the closure of the Lachin corridor, which caused Ararat Mirzoyan not to travel to Moscow.
The Russian Foreign Minister confirmed the willingness to hold such a meeting, indicating that the Azerbaijani side also expressed its readiness. “The Armenian side stated that it has no objections, but has not yet provided a final agreement. I do not think we will insist on this in order to offer our services. Those proposals are well known to both sides,” Lavrov declared at a joint press conference in Baku with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.
“It is very pleasant to be in sunny and hospitable Baku,” Lavrov noted.
Jeyhun Bayramov stated that they also discussed the situation in the South Caucasus and the implementation of trilateral statements with his Russian colleague. “We have discussed post-conflict issues and exchanged views on the work done towards signing a peace treaty with Armenia. The active phase of signing that treaty is already behind us. Currently, the Armenian side is obstructing the signing of the peace agreement, and we see that they also refused to participate in the third round of negotiations,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister stated.
