Wizz Air to Suspend All Flights to Moldova

The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air will suspend all flights to Chisinau as of March 14, citing safety concerns, according to a statement from the airline's press service.

"The safety of passengers and crew remains Wizz Air's top priority; however, due to recent events in Moldova and the high, albeit not 100%, potential risk in the country's airspace, Wizz Air has made a difficult but responsible decision to cease all flights to Chisinau starting March 14," the announcement states.

In consideration of passengers' interests, Wizz Air will offer additional flights from Iasi (a Romanian airport located 150 km from the Moldovan capital) to accommodate travelers.

The airline explained its decision due to security issues connected to the events in Ukraine. Since February 24, 2022, Moldova has closed its airspace several times. Last September, Wizz Air had already relocated its operational base and aircraft parking from Chisinau to Iasi.
