188 Developers and Contractors Arrested in Turkey After Earthquakes
In Turkey, 188 people have been arrested in connection with investigations into those responsible for buildings that were either destroyed or modified in violation of zoning regulations in the earthquake zone. This information was reported by Hurriyet.
Investigations have been conducted regarding buildings that were either damaged or altered in violation of zoning regulations across 11 provinces affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. In this context, the identities of 626 suspects have been revealed. Among those suspects, 188 have been arrested, while 218 have been released after judicial oversight. Arrest warrants have been issued for 69 individuals, and a detention order has been placed on 63 others. Proceedings are ongoing for four suspects currently in custody. It has been determined that five individuals are located abroad, 16 are deceased, and 63 have been released after providing testimony.
It is worth noting that Turkey's disaster agency has reported that more than 44,000 people lost their lives due to the earthquakes on February 6, and more than 500,000 people have been evacuated from the disaster zone. There have already been 9,136 aftershocks registered.
