Strong Earthquake Near Tajikistan and China Border

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake has occurred in eastern Tajikistan, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The Iranian IRNA news agency has reported this news.

According to the Chinese Seismological Centre, the tremors were recorded near the Tajikistan-China border, not far from Xinjiang. The strength of the earthquake is reported to be 7.2 magnitude.

The Institute of Seismology and Seismically Resistant Construction at the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan stated that the earthquake was recorded at 5:37 AM local time. The epicenter of the tremors is located 40 km east of Lake Sarez, with a magnitude of 6.8 at the epicenter and a depth of 20 km.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or damage in the border area of Tajikistan.
