I Don't Think It's in Azerbaijan's Interest Not to Comply with This Decision: Yeghishe Kirakosyan

The court's decision regarding the Lachin corridor is of crucial importance, as court decisions are legally binding. This was stated by Armenia's representative for international affairs, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, in an interview with Public Television, referring to the International Court of Justice's decision today.

According to Kirakosyan, the court's decision takes effect from the moment it is published. 'When the president of the court read the decision, he emphasized that it creates a legal obligation. Consequently, in addition to the trilateral obligation, Azerbaijan has another legal obligation to ensure the safe transportation of goods and people in both directions through the Lachin corridor. This is a key development from both security and legal perspectives,' Kirakosyan stated.

He added that the decision should be utilized politically by the Armenian side on all possible platforms. In response to the question of what consequences could follow if Azerbaijan does not comply with the court's demands, Kirakosyan said that it will not have a positive reaction from the international community. 'Azerbaijan's failure to comply with such decisions will create at least a problem of the country's reputation, along with serious complications. The Armenian side must also do everything to constantly remind Azerbaijan and the international community of this new obligation, and in that case, I don't believe it will be in Azerbaijan's interest not to comply with this decision.'
