Xi Jinping to Visit Moscow Soon: WSJ

The President of China, Xi Jinping, is planning to visit Moscow in the coming months to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.

WSJ’s sources indicated that the organization of the visit is still in the early stages, and the specific date has not yet been determined. They noted that this trip could take place in April or early May.

Beijing has stated its intention to play a more active role in resolving the situation in Ukraine, the sources emphasize. The meeting with Putin will be part of efforts to promote multilateral peace negotiations and will allow China to reiterate its call against the use of nuclear weapons.

On February 21, Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, met in Moscow with Wang Yi, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Patrushev described the development of strategic partnership with China as an unconditional priority of Russia’s foreign policy, highlighting the special role of bilateral relations amid Western attempts to restrain both countries. He also assured Beijing of Moscow’s support regarding issues related to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Tibet.

Wang Yi will travel to France, Italy, Hungary, and Russia from February 14 to 22.
