Marriage Made Him Mentally Ill: Mother of the 'Hammer' Driver Reveals New Details
The newspaper 'Iravunk' reports that on February 10, around 11:00 PM, Gegham Sahradyan, a resident of Ararat, became a drug addict due to an unsuccessful marriage and participation in the 44-day war. On the day of the incident, he had gone to see his ex-wife, but his father-in-law did not allow him to meet her, prompting him to drive crazily into the city.
In an interview with 'Iravunk', Gegham's mother, Mrs. Arpine, recounted, “My son participated in both the Four-Day and the 44-Day wars. Their unit was retreating, and along with five friends, they walked for several days through forests until they could reach a place with phone service. He called me, and I went to bring him back from Jabrail, where he was in a 'captured' state. He was in a very bad psychological state. Two years ago, he got married, but a week later there was a family dispute. Our daughter-in-law called her parents, who came and took their daughter back home. After that, Gegham tried several times to speak with her and bring her back, but he was unsuccessful.
“All of this had a very detrimental effect on my son’s mental well-being, turning him into a drug addict, and his dependency grew worse day by day. Gegham was a good guy, involved in our family business, but that marriage, which lasted only a few months in total, made my son mentally ill and a slave to drugs. We have taken him to the hospital several times for treatment, but after completing the treatments, he would find those involved in drug dealing to buy again.
“Last year, he was in a psychiatric hospital. A few days later, I received a call from the doctor saying that my son had been taken to the intensive care unit, dead. I went to the hospital and learned that there had been a fight among the patients, and Gegham had defended himself, resulting in him being beaten by four to five people. He was unconscious for several days and even suffered clinical death. We barely saved him. However, he had tried to escape from the third floor of that hospital by tying bed sheets together, but fell while trying to climb down and broke his leg, arm, and head.
“We have repeatedly contacted law enforcement to find and prevent those involved in drug dealing. I went to the police with Gegham’s phone several times, showing the numbers from which he had received drugs. But no action has been taken by the police. Let the police investigate and see where these drugs come from and how they can be sold freely. Our case happened with my child, perhaps after this they will start searching for those drug dealers to save the lives of other children.
“He was using drugs that made him dance in the middle of the street for hours. This drug and his beloved girl ruined my son’s life. He used to say that it’s a type of medication that lifts me up and makes me feel like a movie star; I feel powerful.”
“In the last few days, we haven’t let him leave the house to avoid finding that rubbish, but he escaped. He ran away and…”
