EU Observation Mission Conducts First Patrol in Armenia

The European Union's observation mission has conducted its first patrol in Armenia today. This was announced by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, who also shared relevant photographs.

“We have launched the EU mission in Armenia (EUMA), which is now operational and has conducted its first patrol today. EUMA will contribute to the safety of the people, strengthen trust on the ground, and support the EU's efforts in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Borrell wrote in a post on his Twitter account.

Earlier, the EU Council had announced the launch of the EU Civil Monitoring Mission (EUMA) in Armenia on February 20, within the framework of the alliance's Common Security and Defence Policy. The EU Council had announced on January 23 the decision to send a civilian mission to the border areas of Armenia for a duration of two years. The EU mission in Armenia (EUMA Armenia) will include up to 100 personnel, including about 50 unarmed observers.
