Situation at Upper Lars: About 1200 Armenian Trucks Stuck at Checkpoint
About 1200 Armenian trucks are currently stuck at the Upper Lars checkpoint on both the Georgian and Russian sides. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by Vahan Hakobyan, the customs attaché of the Armenian Embassy in Russia.
“Traffic in both directions at Lars remains closed for trucks. Approximately 400 trucks have left Armenia but are still on the Georgian side, which means they have not crossed into Russian territory, while 800 Armenian trucks are currently stuck on the Russian side,” said Vahan Hakobyan.
It should be noted that the Upper Lars road has been closed to trucks due to poor weather conditions since February 13. We remind you that the Military Highway is the only land route connecting Armenia with Russia. This route is regularly closed due to bad weather.
Georgia is constructing a bypass road that avoids the most dangerous section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars road (Gudauri-Kobi), which involves a 9-kilometer tunnel.
