Captain Expresses Willingness to Testify: New Developments

The captain accused in the case of the death of 15 soldiers, Yeghishe Hakobyan, intends to testify once his health and psychological condition improve. This was stated by Hakobyan's lawyer, Hovsep Sargsyan, in a conversation with News.am.

Sargsyan mentioned that the captain has expressed a desire to testify. Commenting on the charges, the lawyer indicated that they are still preliminary and there are issues with accuracy.

It is noteworthy that on January 19, around 01:30, a fire broke out in the barracks of the engineering battalion of the Armenian Ministry of Defense's military unit located in the village of Azat in the Gegharkunik province, resulting in the death of 15 conscript soldiers. Seven soldiers were taken to the Vardenis hospital; four of them were discharged after receiving medical help, while three were transferred to Yerevan with serious injuries for treatment at the National Burn Center.

Immediately following the incident, two senior officers, including the commander of the 2nd Army Corps, as well as seven other senior military personnel, were dismissed from their positions.
