Aliyev Criticizes Iran
Despite the significant time that has passed since the "day of terrorism" in Tehran, the Iranian police and security forces have not taken serious measures. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made this statement, according to Azerbaijani media.
During a meeting with Turkey's Minister of Education Mahmut Ozere, he emphasized that the actions of the embassy's security staff led to the neutralization of the "terrorist," preventing the armed man from attacking other embassy employees.
Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan is now thoroughly investigating this "terrorist act." It is worth mentioning that an armed attack occurred at the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran on the morning of January 27. An employee responsible for the embassy's security was killed. Azerbaijan evacuated the embassy staff from Tehran.
It should be noted that Baku has rejected Tehran's version regarding the motives behind the attack on the embassy. Earlier, the head of Tehran's police stated that the assailant entered the embassy with his two minor children. "Preliminary investigations suggest that the attacker's motives were personal and familial issues," he said.
Meanwhile, a representative from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Aykan Hajizade, stated, "We do not believe that the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran was carried out for personal or familial reasons. We condemn this attack and demand that the Iranian government take necessary measures to reveal the provocateurs. The Iranian side should have taken measures against the attack on our embassy. Tehran must act against the anti-Azerbaijani campaign in Iran. In recent months, there has been a large-scale anti-Azerbaijani propaganda in Iranian media, which has served as a catalyst for the attack. Azerbaijan has always supported friendship with Iran, but such provocations have negative effects. The Iranian side bears full responsibility for the attack."
