Greece Will Not Provide Leopard 2 Tanks to Ukraine
The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, stated during his visit to Japan that Greece will not supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Mitsotakis' remarks were cited by the Greek news portal onalert.gr on Tuesday.
“We have provided significant military support to Ukraine, particularly supplying armored personnel carriers; however, we will not provide Leopard 2 tanks for the simple reason that they are absolutely necessary for our defense. We have made it clear that we are ready to support Ukraine, but not at the cost of our defensive capabilities,” the portal quoted the Prime Minister.
On January 25, U.S. officials announced plans to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Kyiv. On the same day, the German government confirmed it would send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and grant permission for other countries to re-export this equipment.
