Traffic Lights with Additional Sections Will Have Red Borders Even When Turned Off
On January 30, during a press conference, Arusyak Khachatryan, a senior specialist in the Road Policy Division of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia, addressed the valid complaints of drivers regarding traffic lights with additional sections. She noted that, particularly at night, drivers cannot see these additional sections if they are not lit.
“This means that a driver, especially if they are unfamiliar with the area, cannot realize that there is an additional section. In such cases, they might enter an intersection under a green main light, inadvertently committing an offense,” she stated.
Khachatryan mentioned that they have proposed that traffic lights with additional sections feature a red border, even when turned off, to make them noticeable to drivers.
Furthermore, she indicated that they have also suggested signs indicating the presence of several services nearby. “These will inform drivers about the location of charging points, food options, and rest areas along the road. For example, if there are multiple such facilities along the route, we can allow several signs to be placed on one panel rather than placing a sign every 100 meters,” she added.
