Armenians Hold Protest in Buenos Aires
The Armenian community in Buenos Aires organized a protest on January 23 near the city's Obelisk to raise awareness about the blockade of the Republic of Artsakh by Azerbaijan and the humanitarian crisis resulting from the blockade of the Lachin corridor since December 12, 2022, reports "Diario ARMENIA." On that day, starting at 5:00 PM, Armenians of all ages gathered in the Republic Square, displaying banners condemning the blockade of Artsakh and demanding the immediate opening of the corridor.
“The Lachin corridor is the only access for essential supplies, such as food, medicine, and energy resources,” the organizers noted. According to them, this is another maneuver by Azerbaijan and its President Ilham Aliyev to implement a genocidal project of ethnic cleansing against the Armenian population of the region.
“As Armenian citizens of Argentina, we urge our country’s people and authorities to express solidarity with the residents of Artsakh and to raise their voices, making appropriate demands to international organizations for Azerbaijan to cease its inhumane treatment,” the participants of the action declared.
“The international community—including the European Union, the UN, and the Minsk Group—has been ineffectual. While oil and gas deals with Turkey are deemed important, the life of a brutally besieged people is far more important. Our government in Argentina must also make its voice heard in this regard,” protester Rosita Yousefyan stated to "Diario ARMENIA."
