Armenian Delegate Responds to Azerbaijani Lawmaker Accused of Distorting Facts at PACE
During a plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Azerbaijani MP Konul Nurullayeva deliberately spread falsehoods in an attempt to mislead delegates. In a discussion on the report titled 'Sexual Violence in Armed Conflicts,' Nurullayeva stated that 'Azerbaijan has repeatedly felt the negative impact of sexual violence during conflicts.' She claimed that 'thousands of Azerbaijani women have fallen victim to various forms of sexual violence during the Nagorno-Karabakh war and other conflicts.'
Thus, the Azerbaijani delegate attempted to 'neutralize' the horrific information regarding the brutal killings of Armenian female soldiers. 'In September 2022, following Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia, not only Armenia but also the international community was shocked by the horrific videos circulated in Azerbaijani media. All captured women’s bodies were subjected to torture. The children of these women have also seen these videos. The bodies of these women have not been handed over to the Armenian side,' responded member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, Arusyak Julhakyan.
During the September aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan, several Armenian women were tortured and killed by Azerbaijani military personnel. Subsequently, Azerbaijani soldiers mutilated and horrifically disfigured the bodies, posting videos on social media that received encouraging comments from their compatriots.
'I draw your attention to the atrocities committed by Azerbaijani military units and soldiers against our servicemen, including female servicemen, in our combat positions,' stated the Chief of the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff, Edward Asryan, during a meeting with foreign ambassadors shortly after the aggression in the town of Jermuk. He invited the ambassadors to view the video following the press briefing.
