Armenia Transferred 67 Bags of Human Remains to Azerbaijan in 2022: Azerbaijani Ambassador's Letter to Guterres
The Azerbaijani Ambassador to the UN, Yashar Aliyev, has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, stating that Yerevan has "violated" international humanitarian law, according to Azerbaijani news outlets.
The envoy claims that the Armenian authorities have "hidden" evidence regarding the discovery of 3,890 missing Azerbaijanis over the past 30 years.
In the letter addressed to Guterres, it is also mentioned that in 2022, Yerevan transferred 67 bags containing mixed remains of 106 individuals to Baku.
On January 23, the Azerbaijani government submitted the main document of a lawsuit against Armenia to the International Court of Justice, which includes information regarding Azerbaijanis who were "killed, displaced, and affected" due to 30 years of "ethnic cleansing and other actions by Armenia."
It is worth noting that it is difficult to ascertain the veracity of the Azerbaijani ambassador's statements. Recall that in February 2022, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced from the podium of the National Assembly that Armenia had transferred the remains of 108 missing Azerbaijani soldiers from the First Nagorno-Karabakh War to Azerbaijan.
Pashinyan stated that this action was taken by the Armenian side unconditionally, framing it as a humanitarian issue that is "not subject to bargaining."
