Since they have returned to the National Assembly, we will not take any action this time as a gesture of goodwill, says Simonyan about opposition absences
The Council of the National Assembly of Armenia has decided not to apply to the Constitutional Court regarding the termination of the powers of 22 members of the "Armenia" faction, as they have returned to the parliament. This announcement was made by NA President Alen Simonyan during a conversation with journalists.
Today, a meeting of the NA Council has been convened on this issue, as the previous one, which was scheduled for January 13, was postponed due to the absence of members of the "Armenia" faction.
"They have exceeded the permissible limit of absences, but since they have returned to the NA, we will not take any action this time as a gesture of goodwill," Simonyan noted.
It is noteworthy that back on January 13, the CP faction had announced that they decided not to apply to the Constitutional Court, but according to the NA procedural legislation, the session had to take place nonetheless. In the case of a member's absence, the discussion of the matter is postponed for one week and resumes at a meeting convened the day after the expiration of the specified deadline, regardless of their presence.
The Council's session was set to consider a proposal to apply to the Constitutional Court to strip several, including Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Andranik Tevanian, Anna Grigoryan, Armen Rustamyan, Seyran Ohanyan, Elinar Vardanyan, Artsvik Minasyan, Argishti Gevorgyan, Kristine Vardanyan, Gegham Manukyan, Aghvan Vardanyan, Agnesa Khmoyan, Ashot Simonyan, Armen Charhchyan, Aspram Krpeyan, Armenuhy Kureghyanu, Tadevos Avetisyan, Arthur Sarkisyan, Arthur Khachatryan, Aragnaz Manukyan, Gegham Nazaryan, and Zemfira Mirzoeva of their parliamentary mandates.
