According to preliminary data, the fire that resulted in the deaths of 15 servicemen was ignited due to violations of fire safety rules. This was stated by Armenia's Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan during a government meeting.
"According to preliminary data released by the military police, the ignition occurred due to violations of fire safety rules, and prohibited means were also used. This refers to gasoline, which could not be extinguished later," Papikyan said.
On January 19, around 01:30, a fire broke out in the barracks of the engineer battalion of the Armed Forces located in the village of Azat, Gegharkunik Province, under still unclear circumstances. Despite firefighting efforts on-site, there are casualties and injured individuals, with details being clarified.
