During a State of Emergency, Only Specific Applications Will Be Blocked, Says Minasian
Concerns regarding the proposed amendments to the law on the legal regime of a state of emergency are unfounded, as many believe that such a situation would lead to immediate blanket restrictions. This statement was made by Minister of Justice Grigor Minasian during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly.
"This is not the case at all. The executive will simply be given the opportunity to block access to specific internet applications or restrict access in specific areas if necessary," said the minister.
He indicated that specialists from defense agencies should be involved in the drafting of the project, as it addresses not media regulations but rather the insights of defense authorities, considering the previous ‘bitter experience.’
According to Minasian, the amendments to the law take into account experiences from both the 44-day war and the aggression in September. He added that the draft is already prepared, but discussions are still ongoing.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Justice has proposed to include stricter restrictions in the law on the legal regime of a state of emergency. In December, the ministry presented a draft to amend the law concerning the temporary suspension of internet services, social networks, and internet applications, as well as partial or complete limitations on internet access.
