Italy Arrests Most Wanted Boss of 'Cosa Nostra'

Italian carabinieri have arrested Matteo Messina Denaro, one of the leaders of the 'Cosa Nostra' mafia organization. This information has been reported by The Guardian.

Denaro was apprehended in a hospital in Palermo, the capital of Sicily. He has been sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment for his involvement in the murders of anti-mafia prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992. He also faces life imprisonment for bombings that took place in Florence, Rome, and Milan in 1993, which claimed 10 lives.

In 2002, he was also sentenced in absentia for personally murdering dozens of individuals or commissioning their killings. The media notes that the 60-year-old mobster once claimed that he had "filled an entire cemetery all by himself." Thanks to a few bankers, he managed to lead a luxurious life while on the run.

Denaro's father was also a powerful leader in the 'Cosa Nostra' mafia organization. Denaro had been hiding from justice for 30 years and had topped Italy's most wanted mafia list.
