"I Speak Russian with My Children": Advisor to Zelensky's Chief of Staff
Alexey Arestovich, an advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's Chief of Staff, has confessed that he communicates with his children in Russian at home. This information was reported by RIA Novosti.
“I speak Russian with my children; I cannot sing songs in any other language besides my native one, it feels fake. I don’t want to pretend when I hold my child, but I do sing partially in Ukrainian. We always talk to our children in Ukrainian for two days a week, and we enroll them in Ukrainian kindergartens and schools so that they can speak Ukrainian, while at home we speak Russian,” Arestovich stated.
He also criticized the language law that imposes fines for not using the Ukrainian language in everyday life.
It should be noted that the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on April 25, 2019, “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the State language.” The document stipulates that citizens must use the national language in all areas of life.
