VIDEO: Frozen City - Record Temperatures Recorded in Yakutsk
At the Tongulakh meteorological station in the Gorny District of Yakutia, a temperature of -65°C has been recorded. This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Yakutsk Hydro-Meteorological and Environmental Monitoring Administration (YAUGMS). According to the administration, this station is difficult to access, but is equipped with all the necessary instruments for meteorological observations.
The report states that in the district center of Gorny, the village of Berdigestyah, temperatures have dropped to -59°C, while other meteorological observation points have recorded -50°C.
Previously, YaUGMS announced that from January 12, severe frost is expected in the northern regions of Yakutia, with temperatures reaching -65°C. This “ice age” is expected to last until January 16, and dense fogs are forecasted to accompany the intense cold.
Roman Vilfand, the scientific head of the Russian Hydro-Meteorological Center, had earlier stated that temperatures of up to -58°C are expected in the Irkutsk region, up to -63°C in Yakutia, and up to -55°C in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
