Former Deputy Minister of Defense Executed in Iran; Reasons Revealed

Former Deputy Minister of Defense Ali Reza Akbari has been executed in Iran, found guilty of espionage on behalf of Britain. According to the Mizan Haber news agency, which is accountable to Iran's judicial system, the judges have determined that Akbari engaged in extensive activities detrimental to Iran's internal and external security and sowed chaos by spying for British intelligence services.

Investigators allege that Akbari had multiple meetings with British intelligence agents, providing them with information on 178 individuals, including Iranian scientists, in exchange for money.

According to reports, it was Akbari who identified scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was assassinated in Tehran on November 27, 2020, during a meeting with British intelligence agents, referring to him as a “key figure of the Iranian program.” The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence indicated that Akbari transmitted information from the country's secret and strategic centers to the British Foreign Office's Secret Intelligence Service.

“Akbari is one of those spies who gathered information about Iran's strategic institutions with the aim of passing it to British intelligence,” the report stated.
