There Are Things That Make Armenia Vulnerable, Says France's National Assembly President
France has always stood by Armenia in strengthening its territorial integrity and security. This was stated by the President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, during a joint press conference with the President of the Armenian National Assembly, Alen Simonyan.
“It is our duty to be here because there are things that make Armenia vulnerable, and we must stand by our brotherly people,” she said.
In response to a journalist's question about whether it is time for France to recognize the independence of Artsakh, the President of the French National Assembly replied, “You know the position of France. France does not recognize the independence of Artsakh, and this is in accordance with the international law we are bound by.”
Yaël Braun-Pivet also recalled that both the Senate and the lower house of Parliament have adopted resolutions condemning Azerbaijan's aggression and the blockade of the Lachin corridor.
It is noteworthy that the President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, arrived in Armenia yesterday, January 12, at the invitation of Alen Simonyan. The delegation headed by the President of the French National Assembly includes Deputy President of the National Assembly Valérie Rabault, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Jean-Louis Bourlanges, MP for French citizens living abroad Anne Genetet, and MP for the Rhône department Anne-Laurence Petel. The delegation, accompanied by Alen Simonyan, visited the Tsitsernakaberd memorial today.
