Detention Period Extended for Accused in Pemzashen Murders Case
The General Jurisdiction Court of Shirak Province has satisfied the request to extend the detention of two defendants in the Pemzashen triple murder case, Vruyr Barseghyan and Arkadi Barseghyan, for an additional two months. This was reported by the Investigative Committee.
Recall that on November 9, the bodies of 31-year-old resident Zarine Meliksetyan, along with her 12-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son, were discovered murdered in their home in the village of Pemzashen. Residents of the same village, 32-year-old Vruyr Barseghyan and his relative, 41-year-old Arkadi Barseghyan, were arrested and subsequently detained on suspicion of the brutal killings. Vruyr Barseghyan has admitted to the charges against him, providing a confession, while Arkadi Barseghyan denies the allegations, stating that he was not present at the crime scene. The husband of the deceased woman was in Russia for work and returned after the tragic incident.
According to the Investigative Committee’s hypothesis, the motivation for the inhumane murders was robbery. Vruyr Barseghyan has been charged under several articles of the RA Criminal Code: Part 2, Clauses 6, 8, and 13 of Article 155 (Murder), Part 2, Clauses 3, 5, 6, and 13 of Article 155 (two episodes), Part 3, Clause 2 of Article 252 (Robbery), and Part 4 of Article 198 (Sexual Assault). Arkadi Barseghyan has been charged under Part 2, Clauses 8 and 13 of Article 155 and Part 3, Clause 2 of Article 252.
